Former MFMHL Standout Peters Named Women's Player of the Week

    SAINT PAUL (December 6, 2011) -- UW-Superior goaltender Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba / Garden Valley Collegiate) has been selected Player of the Week in the NCHA Women's Conference for the week ending December 4.  Peters made 66 saves in a series split with rival UW-River Falls. 

   Last Friday night Peters made 31 saves on 32 shots while leading the Yellowjackets to a 2-1 overtime win.  With the game tied 0-0, the sophomore made ten saves in the third period.  The only goal she allowed came with the Falcons on the power play.

In game two of the series, Peters stopped 35 of 27 shots in a 2-1 loss.  She made double-digit saves in all three periods and one of the two goals against came with UWRF on the power play.

Peters owns the third best goals against average in the NCHA (1.45) and the third best save percentage (.941).  She is 2-1-1 in NCHA play this season.

   Along with Peters who played for the Pembina Valley Hawks the Yellowjackets currently feature several Manitoba and former MFMHL players on their roster including Kiara DeKezel, Sheryl Kaskiw and Teal Crosson all former Westman Wildcats along with former Central Plains Capital Shaye Nelissen. The Yellowjackets are currently ranked 9th in NCAA DIII.
