GAME 1 Tuesday, March 13th @ 7:30 in Morden
The Defending Champion Pembina Valley Hawks made a strong statement in the 1st game of the Best of 5 MFMHL Final that they are not ready to let go of their title by clawing the Winnipeg Avros by a surprising score of 9-0. The Avros actually outshot the Hawks by a count of 39-32 however the defending champs took advantage of some shaky Avros goaltending and a nervous looking Avros team to score early and often to take a 1-0 lead in the Final Series. The Hawks received shutout goaltending from Brittni Mowat while getting a 5 point performance from their leading scorer Jessica Kaminsky including a hat-trick to jump into the series lead. The 2 teams are right back on the ice Wednesday at the MTS Iceplex @ 7:00 for Game 2.
GAME 2 Wednesday, March 14th @ 7:00 @ the Iceplex
The Avros out shot and out played the defending champs however Hawks' goalie Brittni Mowat was the difference and has now held the Avros scoreless for 6 periods stopping a total of 73 shots in the first 2 games with several of those saves being spectacular in game 2. The Hawks scored twice in the first period and then held on as the Avros out skated and outshot them 28 to 19 over the final 2 frames. Jessica Kaminsky and Cassidy Carels each had a goal and an assist for the Hawks, Kaminsky now has 7 points in the first two games of the series. The Avros will now travel back to Morden on Sunday and try to stay alive on the road while the Hawks will look to finish off the series and repeat as MFMHL and Provincial Champion.
GAME 3 Sunday, March 18th @ 8:00 in Morden
The Hawks wrapped up the MFMHL Championship Series with a 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Avros in Morden on Sunday night. Led by Cassidy Carels' hat trick and the stellar goaltending of Brittni Mowat who stopped 39 of 41 shots the Hawks defended their MFMHL and Provincial Championships and move onto represent Manitoba at the Hockey Canada Esso Cup Regionals vs. the Saskatchewan "AAA" Champion at a site in Saskatchewan to be determined. Notre Dame the defending Esso Cup Champion currently leads Saskatoon Stars 1 game to 0 in their best of 5 series.
