2012 HOCKEY CANADA WESTERN REGION CHAMPIONS
HEADING TO HOCKEY CANADA ESSO CUP MIDGET FEMALE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Pembina Valley Hawks can book their tickets to Charlottetown PEI for the Esso Cup National Chanpionship April 22-28 after defeating the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2 in Double Over Time and sweeping their best of 3 West Region Qualifier.
The two teams battled to 0-0 1st period intermission score and saw all the regulation scoring occur in the 2nd period with the Hawks jumping out to a 2-0 lead before the Hounds battled back. Kate Friesen had the Hawks' first goal with assists going to Cassidy Carels and Madison Hutchinson. Carels then put the Hawks ahead 2-0 when she scored a shorthanded goal on a coast to coast rush and beat the Notre Dame goalie with a great shot. The Hounds responded immediately when they scored on the same powerplay to make it 2-1 before scoring 2 minutes later to even it up 2-2 heading into the 2nd intermission.
The 3rd period decided nothing sending the teams into a 4th period, a 10 minute OT period which also saw no one able to find the back the net leading to an intermission and a 20 minute OT period. In the 5th period the Hawks went to the power play and with 10:38 remaining Lauryn Keen off a feed from Hawk's Captain Madison Hutchinson scored the game winner earning the Hawks the right to represent the West Region in Charlottetown.
Brittni Mowat continues to stand tall for the Hawks as she stopped 38 of 40 shots fired her way, the Hawks took 31 shots at the Hounds net.

HAWKS TAKE GAME 1 OF WESTERN REGIONAL
The MFMHL Champion Pembina Valley Hawks rolled into Wilcox and defeated the defending Esso Cup National Champions Notre Dame Hounds 2-1 in the first game of their best of 3 series to see you will represnet the West Region. Cassidy Carels and Brooke Drummond notched the goals for the Hawks while Brittni Mowat continued her strong play between the pipes stopping 25 of 26 shots fired her way.
The Hawks return to the ice Saturday night in Wilcox with an opportunity to wrap up the series.
