PEMBINA VALLEY HAWKS

REPEAT AS MFMHL AND PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS

The Winnipeg Avros fired 114 shots at the Hawk's net and displayed a never quit attitude right until the final buzzer however it was not enough to overcome the Pembina Valley Hawks in the MFMHL Championship Series. Led by the stellar goaltending of Brittni Mowat and a balanced offense the Hawks never trailed in the series and earned the MFMHL and Provincial Titles along with a trip to Saskatchewan to represent Manitoba in the Hockey Canada Esso Cup Western Regionals where they will match up against the winner of the Saskatchewan "AAA" League (SMFHL) still to be determined. The defending National Champion Notre Dame Hounds hold a 1-0 series lead over the Saskatoon Stars after Saturday night.

The MFMHL Final Series saw the Hawks sweep the Avros however the Winnipg team had numerous scoring chances in all 3 games but could not beat netminder Brittni Mowat who was the best player in the series. The Avros never found the back of the net until the 2nd period of the 3rd game as Mowat was just about unbeatable. The Avros could not get a lead in any of the 3 games and found themselves chasing the defending Champion Hawks although for a large portion of the series not only played the Hawks even but actually outplayed and controlled the play for extended periods of time. 

The Hawks backed Mowat's solid goaltending with balanced and timely scoring that saw 6 players average over a point per game in the post-season. Lauryn Keen (19 points), Cassidy Carels (17), Chelsea VanDeynze (16), Madison Hutchinson (13), Jessica Kaminsky (13) and Kate Friesen (11) all reached double digit numbers in points in 9 post-season games.
