TEAM MANITOBA EARNS SILVER MEDAL

Team Manitoba come up one game short of being Hockey Canada U18 National Champions as they lost 4-2 on an empty net goal to Ontario Blue on Sunday in Dawson Creek BC. Team Manitoba held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but were unable to secure a victory as Ontario Blue came back from both deficits and scored the go ahead goal in the third period before scoring an empty net goal with one second remaining in the game to guarantee being crowned U18 National Champions.

Jessica Volloton of the MFMHL's Westman Wildcats gave Manitoba the lead in the first period when she netted her first of the tournament with assists going to her Wildcat teammates Karissa Kirkup and Ashley Brykaliuk. Ontario would even the score sending the teams into the first intermission even at 1-1.

Lauryn Keen of the MFMHL's Pembina Valley Hawks would restore Manitoba's lead with an unassisted marker in the second period however Ontario would again score to send the teams into the second break all even at 2-2.

Ontario would come out in the third period and get the winning goalearly in the period and hung on to score the empty netter with 1 second left.

Team Manitoba had a tremendous run at the U18 National Championships and came up with one of Manitoba's best ever performances at the national level with a Silver Medal, this matched a result from the 2007 Canada Games. Team Manitoba becomes the first team outside of Ontario or Quebec to finish in the top 2 at the U18 National Championship and has won 4 medals at this competition trailing only Ontario Red and Quebec for Medals won.

Congratulations to Head Coach Ashley van Aggelen (MFMHL Winnipeg Avros Head Coach) and Assistant Coaches Neil Chow and Lisa Peters for a job well done.

Congratulations to all Team Manitoba Players especially those from MFMHL teams:
