MFMHL Teams Attain Positive Results Away from MFMHL Play

WINNIPEG AVROS FINISH SECOND

The Avros travelled to Washiington DC to compete in the U17 JWHL Challenge Cup from January 16-18 where they earned their way to the final only to lose 2-1 in OT after outshooting their opponent the West Coast Avalanche from BC 38-19. Along the way the Avros went undefeated with wins over Colorado (8-0), West Coast (7-3), Boston (7-1) along with a 2-2 tie vs. NAHA. Another strong performance for a MFMHL team in a tournament with out of province and country teams. CONGRATS!


WILDCATS MAKE SEMI-FINAL AT MACS

The Westman Wildcats traveled to Calgary and participated in the MACS Tournament where they made it to the semi-finals before losing 4-1 to the Calgary Fire although they outshot their opposition 42-18. The Wildcats were 2-0-2 in round robin play with Jaycee Magwood being named to the First All-Star Team and MVP as she was the tournament's leading scorer. Jenna Patterson was also selected to receive a $1500.00 academic scholarship. Another excellent showing for a MFMHL team at a major event. CONGRATS


HAWKS FINISH SECOND AT NOTRE DAME

Another strong finish by a MFMHL team in a quality tournament as the Pembina Valley Hawks made the final of the 20 team Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament hosted by Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox Sask. The Hawks lost to the Warner Warriors a Prep Program from Alberta 4-1 in the Final. Prior to this the Hawks racked up 5 straight wins over Notre Dame, Weyburn, Southeast, Norther Cougars and Regina.

CAPS MAKE SEMI-FINALS In ST. PAUL

The Central Plains Capitals earned a Top 4 finish at the Minnesota Mayhem Tournament in St. Paul Minnesota vs. U19 Teams from the USA in a 10 team event over the USA Thanksgiving Long Weekend.

CAPS WIN 2 AT HOCKEY MANITOBA PROJECT 100

 

The Central Plains Capitals participated in the Hockey Manitoba ScotiaBank PROJECT 100 Female hockey event at the MTS Iceplex by playing two games on Saturday December 13. The Caps came away with a 4-1 win over the Thunderbay Queens in a morning match up before defeating the St. Mary's Academy Prep Flames 4-3 in the evening. The female hockey showcase hosted by Hockey Manitoba from December 12-14 had all ages of female hockey and involved clinics, various exhibition games and a Bantam AAA Showcase. In all over 1000 particpants took part.

CHIEFS LOSE IN SHATTUCK'S FINAL

The Yellowhead Chiefs travelled to Fairbault MN to the Shattuck Girls Hockey Jamboree where they lost in the final to the host Shattuck-St. Mary's U19 Prep team 2-1 in a shootout. Prior to reaching the final the Chiefs recorded wins over the St. Mary's Prep Flames (Winnipeg), Minneapolis Revolution and the Shattuck-St. Mary's U16 team.
