WEEK 1

Players of the Week: Kylie Lesuk – Eastman Selects

In Eastman’s two games this weekend Lesuk tallied 6 points, 2 goals in the Selects’ 3-2 win over Westman and followed up with 3 goals and an assist in their 6-0 win over Interlake Lightning on Sunday. Lesuk , a 4th year player from Oakbank, has also committed to the University of Manitoba to attend school and play for the Bisons commencing the fall of 2020. Lesuk also participated in Team Canada’s U18 Camp this past summer.

Goalie of the Week: Jillian Szabo – Westman Wildcats

Szabo was instrumental in backstopping a shorthanded Wildcats team to a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Avros on Sunday. Szabo stopped 39 of 40 shots in the win, including 18 in the third period as the Wildcats picked up their first win of the season. Szabo is a grade 12 student at Neelin High School in Brandon.

 

WEEK 2

Players of the Week: Tessa Odell - Pembina Valley Hawks

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Pembina Valley forward Tessa Odell has been named the Player of the Week for Week 2. Odell, a grade 12 student who hails from Glenora, had 4 points in two games this weekend and was an important part of the Hawks offense as she was involved in 4 or their 5 goals. Odell scored both goals for the Hawks in their 5-2 loss on Saturday vs the Winnipeg Avros and assisted 2 times on their 3 goals in a tough 4-3 loss to the Winnipeg Ice.

Goalie of the Week: Jordan Mackow - Winnipeg Avros

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Jordan Mackpw has been named the Goalie of the Week for WEEK 2. Mackow played a big role in her only game this weekend in leading the Avros to a 3-1 victory over Westman on Sunday.  Mackow stopped 23 of 24 shots in the win.  The Wildcats came out with a huge third period push but Mackow stayed calm in the net and was able to fight through tons of traffic in the crease to secure the win. Mackow is a grade 12 student from East St. Paul. 

 

WEEK 3

Players of the Week: Maddy Desrosiers - Eastman Selects

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Eastman Selects forward Maddy Desrosiers has been named Player of the Week for Week 3. In Eastman's two games last week Desrosiers  tallied a total of 4 points.  Desrosiers started the weekend with a goal and 2 assists in the the Selects’ 4-1 victory vs Interlake on Saturday before picking up a goal in a 4-2 loss on Sunday vs. the Winnipeg Avros.  Desrosiers is a grade 11 student from Grande Pointe.  

Goalie of the Week: Emma Plett - Eastman Selects

The MFMHL is pleased to announce that Eastman Selects Emma Plett has been named Goalie of the Week for Week 3. Plett backstopped the Selects to a 4-1 win vs. a tough Interlake Lightning team take last week. Plett stopped 31 of 32 shots in the game and currently sits in 4th in the league with a GAA of 1.69. Plett is a grade 12 student from Grunthal. 

 

WEEK 4

Players of the Week: Abby Bourdead'hui - Pembina Valley Hawks

The MFMHL is pleased to announce that Pembina Hawks Abby Bourdead'hui has been selected as Player of the Week for Week 4. The Hawks had a tough schedule this week with 3 games in 3 days and Bourdead'hui picked up 6 points in those 3 games with 2 of the goals being game winners. Bourdead'hui had 2 goals in the Hawks 4-3 win over Central Plains on Friday, 2 goals in the their 5-3 loss to Interlake and then tallied a goal and an assist in their 5-4 win vs. Eastman. Bourdead'hui is a grade 10 student from La Salle.  

Goalie of the Week: Sidney McMullan - Yellowhead Chiefs

The MFMHL is pleased to announce that Yellowhead Chiefs’ Sidney McMullan has been named the Goalie of the Week for Week 4. McMullan allowed back stopped the Chiefs a tough 3-1 win against the Winnipeg Avros on Saturday.  McMullan held back a strong Avros team with 29 saves on the night and gave the Chiefs the opportunity to start scoring in the third period to secure the win.  McMullan currently sits 3rd in the league with a GAA of 1.50. McMullan is a grade 10 student from Brandon. 

 

WEEK 5

Players of the Week: Raegan Yewdall (Winnipeg Ice) and Liza Vigier (Eastman Selects)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that forwards Raegan Yewdall and Liza Vigier of the Winnipeg Ice and Eastman Selects have been selected as the Players of the Week for Week 5. Yewdall had a big week for the Ice tallying a total of 8 points over two games.  Yewdall had a 6-point night, 2 goals and 4 helpers, in the Ice's 8-3 victory over the Pembina Valley on Friday followed with a goal and an assist on Saturday in the Ice’s 4-0 victory over Central Plains. Yewdall is a grade 11 student from Winnipeg.  

Vigier had a 10-point week over 3 games scoring 5 goals and adding 5 assists. Vigier had 2 goals and an assist in the Selects 3-1 win vs. the Ice on Wednesday followed by a goal and 3 helpers in their 7-0 win over CP on Friday, and then 2 goals and an assist in the Selects 5-3 win over PV on Saturday. Vigier is a grade 12 student from Beausejour and recently committed to attend school and play hockey for the York University.

Goalie of the Week:  Morgan Baker - Winnipeg Ice

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Morgan Baker of the Winnipeg Ice has been selected as the Goalie of the Week for Week 5. Baker was a force over two games registering a shutout vs Central Plains on Saturday stopping 25 shots, for the Baker had a GAA of 1.55 and a .929 save percentage.  Baker is a grade 11 student from Petersfield. 

 

WEEK 6

Players of the Week: Charly Lindberg (Westman Wildcats)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Westman Wildcats’ forward Charly Lindberg has been selected as Player of the Week for Week 6. In two games over the weekend Lindberg had two goals and an assist to lead the Wildcats to two victories on the road.  Lindberg’s goal in Sunday’s game vs the Winnipeg Ice proved to be the game winner.  Lindberg was solid in all areas of the ice and her prowess in the face-off circle were instrumental in leading the Wildcats to two victories on the road.  Lindberg a third year forward and is a grade 11 student attending Vincent Massey in Brandon.  

 

WEEK 7

Player of the Week: Trinity Grove (Winnipeg Avros)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Winnipeg Avros’ forward Trinity Grove has been selected as the Player of the Week for Week 7. Grove had a big week for the Avros picking up points in all 3 of their games this week and earning her first league hat-trick.  Grove had 7 points notching a goal and 2 assists in the Avros 9-4 win over Eastman on Wednesday then picked up another goal in a 2-1 win over Pembina Valley on Saturday followed her 3 goal performance in the team’s 6-0 win on Sunday vs. the Winnipeg Ice. Grove is a grade 11 student from St. Andrews.  

Goalie of the Week:  Sadie Quane - Yellowhead Chiefs

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Sadie Quane has been selected as the Goalie of the Week for Week 7. Quane earned a shutout against a tough Central Plains Capitals team in the Chiefs 3-0 win on Sunday stopping all 22 shots fired her way. Quade currently has an overall GAA of 2.02 with a save percentage of .902 in MFHL play to date this season. Quane is a grade 10 student from Rivers.

 

WEEK 8

Player of the Week:  Annika Braun (Pembina Valley Hawks)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Pembina Valley Hawks’ forward Annika Braun has been selected as the Player of the Week. Braun had a strong week for the Hawks utilizing her speed and strength to score 2 of the Hawks’ 3 goals in their 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Ice on Saturday.  Braun continued her strong play on Sunday against Westman to help the Hawks to a tight 1-0 win. Annika is a grade 10 student from Altona.  

Goalie of the Week:  Cassidy Cook (Central Plains Capitals)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Central Plains Capitals goalie Cassidy Cook has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. Cook had a standout performance for the Capitals this week in their 5-0 loss to the Winnipeg Avros.  Cook managed to stop 50 of 55 shots on the night including many which were second and third opportunities in a play. Cook kept the Capitals in the game to allow them the opportunity to compete.

Cook is a grade 11 student from Binscarth.

 

WEEK 9

Player of the Week:  Charly Lindberg (Westman Wildcats)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Westman Wildcats forward Charly Lindberg has been selected as Player of the Week. Lindberg had 3 goals for the Wildcats this past week scoring the lone marker in a 2-1 loss to Yellowhead before leading the Wildcats to a 4-2 win over Eastman with her energy and effort by scoring 2 goals. Lindberg was also solid in the faceoff circle and played strong defensively. Lindberg is a 3rd year Wildcat and attends Vincent Massey Collegiate in Brandon

 

Goalie of the Week:  Sadie Quane (Yellowhead Chiefs)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Yellowhead Chiefs’ goalie Sadie Quane has been selects as the Goalie of the Week. Quane helped Chiefs to a 2-1 victory over the Westman Wildcats in the always hotly contested Highway 21 series on Thursday!  Quane was able to turn aside 19 of 20 shots she faced during the game. Quane currently sits 5th in the league with a GAA of 1.87, she attends grade 10 in Rivers.

 

Week 11

Player of the Week:  Taylor Wuich-Coombs (Winnipeg Avros)

Taylor has been on an offensive tear as she put up both Avro goals in the teams 2-0 win over Central Plains on Friday and added a hat trick in the team's 5-2 win over the Ice on Sunday. Taylor is in her third year with the Avros and is one of the teams assistant captains. She was nominated not only for her for her scoring touch this week but also for her urgency on pucks, her two way play and her work to get to the tough areas of the ice.  

Taylor is a grade 12 student from Winnipeg.

 

Goalie of the Week:  Geneva Penner (Eastman Selects)

Penner only had one game this week and stopped 42 of 43 shots and kept Eastman in their game vs. Yellowhead on Saturday, leading the team to a 4-1 road win.

The grade 11 student from Mitchell is in her second season in the league.

 

Week 12

Player of the Week:  Quinn McLaren (Pembina Valley Hawks)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Pembina Valley defense Quinn McLaren has been named Player of the Week. McLaren a Hawks’ assistant captain has been stellar on the blue line and an offensive threat for the team. McLaren registered 4 points picking up an assist in Hawks 4-2 loss to Yellowhead on the Friday. McLaren followed up with 2 goals in the Hawks 4-3 shot out loss to Eastman on Saturday and 1 goal in Hawks 5-4 OT loss to Winnipeg Avros on Sunday. McLaren is a third year player from Roland currently attending Grade 10 at Carman Collegiate.

 

Goalie of the Week:  Katelyn Dorsch (Interlake Lightning)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Katelyn Dorsch of the Interlake Lightning has been named Goalie of the Week. Dorsch helped Interlake to a well earned 3-2 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday in turning away 40 of 42 shots.  She also came in late on the 4-1 loss on Friday vs. Eastman and stopped all 10 shots she faced. Dorsch is a grade 10 student from Warren.

 

Week 13

Player of the Week:  Reagan Yewdall (Winnipeg Ice)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Winnipeg Ice forward Reagan Yewdall has been selected as the Player of the Week ending January 12. Yewdall recorded a hat trick against Yellowhead in the Ice's 4-3 win on Saturday, which included a last minute game winning goal and then added a two goal performance against Westman in the Ice’s 5-2 win on Sunday. Yewdall is a Grade 11 student from Winnipeg who attends Sturgeon Heights.

 

Goalie of the Week:  Megan Beswitherick (Central Plains Capitals)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Central Plains Capitals goalie Megan Beswitherick has been named Goalie of the Week ending January 12. Beswitherick stopped 49 of 51 shots  for .961 save % vs Eastman during Saturday's 2-1 OT loss and provided the Caps every opportunity to win the game including many remarkable saves throughout the game. Beswitherick is a grade 11 student from Austin.

 

Week 14

Player of the Week:  Shaylee Scraba (Westman Wildcats)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Westman Wildcat forward Shaylee Scraba has been selected as the Player of the Week. Over 4 games this week Scraba scored 3 goals ncluding a game winner and 1 assist to set up a game winner. Scraba also scored a shootout goal in the Wildcats victory over the Winnipeg Avros. Scraba plays heavy minutes for the Wildcats, is expected to line up against the opposition’s best players and continues to generate many of the team's scoring chances with her highly skilled play. Scraba is a Grade 11 student from Souris, MB. She was a member of Team Manitoba U18 and played two seasons in the U16 program.

Goalie of the Week:  Natalie Williamson (Westman Wildcats)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Westman Wildcats Natalie Williamson has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. Williamson had a physically demanding week for the Wildcats playing 4 games where she registered 3 shutouts vs Yellowhead and Interlake twice. During the 4 games Williamson only allowed 2 goals with a save percentage of 0.979 and a Goals Against Average of 0.83.  Williamson currently sits first in the league with a GAA of 1.13. Williamson was the team’s rock in difficult situations and controlled rebounds, stifled pressure and was the team's best penalty killer. Williamson is a Grade 11 student at Neelin High School in Brandon.

 

Week 15

Player of the Week:  Julia Bird (Winnipeg Ice)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Winnipeg Ice forward Julia has been selected as the Player of the Week. Bird had a big week of the Ice recording a hat trick and the game winning goal in the Ice's 5-3 win on Tuesday vs Eastman. Bird then then added two assists in the Ice’s 5-0 win over Interlake on Friday.  Bird is also the first player in program history to reach 100 points. Bird is a Grade 11 student at St. Mary's and was also a member of Team Manitoba that competed at U18 Nationals this past November in Morden.

Goalie of the Week:  Sidney McMullan (Yellowhead Chiefs)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Sidney McMullan of the Yellowhead Chiefs has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. McMullen played a significant role in the Chiefs 3-2 OT win over the league leading Winnipeg Avros stopping 35 of 37 shots.  McMullan’s solid play in the third shut down the Avros and bolstered her teammates with some exceptional saves.  McMullan is a Grade 10 student from Brandon and currently has a GAA of 1.66 with a save percentage of 0.939

 

 

Week 16

Player of the Week: Tessa Odell (Pembina Valley Hawks)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Pembina Valley Hawks forward Tessa Odell has been selected as the Player of the Week. Odell a third-year veteran and assistant captain with the Hawks earned herself three points this weekend with her tremendous work ethic during the two games over the weekend. Odell scored a goal in the 4-0 win against Central Plains and added two assists in the 4-0 win vs Interlake. Odell currently sits at 11 goals, 14 assists for a total 25 points in league play. 

Goalie of the Week – Tria Enns (Pembina Valley Hawks)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Tria Enns of the Pembina Valley Hawks has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. Enns, in her rookie year with the Hawks, has stood tall between the pipes this year for the Hawks. This weekend she earned herself two 4-0 shutouts with wins against vs Central Plains and Interlake. Enns stopped 17 shots in blanking Central Plains and 21 vs Interlake in the second shutout. 

 

Week 17

Player of the Week:  Jena Barscello (Yellowhead Chiefs)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Yellowhead Chiefs forward Jena Barscello has been selected as the Player of the Week. Barscello had a strong finish to the season scoring two goals in the teams 4-1 win over Westman on February 6 before a dominating performance picking up 2 goals and 3 assists in their 8-0 win over Central Plains on February 8th.  Barscello is a Grade 12 student from Brandon and has committed to attend school at and play hockey for the University of Manitoba Bisons starting in the fall of 2020. 

Goalie of the Week:  Jordan Mackow (Winnipeg Avros)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Jordan Mackow of the Winnipeg Avros has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. Mackow picked up a 4-0 shut out Sunday against the Winnipeg Ice in what would be her last regular season game as a Winnipeg Avro. Mackow has been a consistent, reliable goalie all year with a positive mind set who always gives the team a chance to win.  Mackow finished the regular season with a stingy 1.58 GAA and .929 save percentage. Mackow is a Grade 12 student from East St. Paul and has committed to attend school at and play hockey for the Trinity Western Spartans starting in the fall of 2020. 

 

Week 18 – Playoffs

Player of the Week:  Julianna Dumma (Winnipeg Ice)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Winnipeg Ice forward Julianna Duma has been selected as the Player of the Week.  Duma had a great week for the Ice in their first three games of the playoffs vs. the Central Plains Capitals earning two assists in each of the 3 games played last week for a 6-point week.

Duma is a Grade 11 student from Winnipeg attending St. Mary's Academy.  

 

Goalie of the Week:  Jillian Szabo (Westman Wildcats)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that the Westman Wildcat Jillian Szabo has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. In 3 playoff games this week Szabo registered two shutouts stopping at total of 40 shots.  In the Wildcats lone loss she stopped 20 of 23 shots.  Szabo has had solid rebound control throughout the series and fought hard to see through the traffic that she has faced each game.  Szabo is a grade 12 student from Brandon who attends Neelin High School.

 

Week 19 – Playoffs

Player of the Week:  Courtenay Bayes (Winnipeg Avros)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that forward Courtenay Bayes of the Winnipeg Avros has been selected as the Player of the Week. Bayes had five points in the Avros win over Interlake on Thursday notching her first MFHL hat trick while adding two helpers. Bayes has been a reliable two way player the entire season for the Avros. Bayes uses explosive speed to get to pucks and creates offense for her teammates. Bayes is known for her work ethic which earns her time in all game situations and her success in the circle also helps give the Avros a chance to win.  Bayes is a Grade 10 student from Winnipeg.  

 

Goalie of the Week:  Emma Plett (Eastman Selects)

The MFHL is pleased Eastman Selects Emma Plett has been selected as the Goalie of the Week. In game 4 and 5 of the intense series vs. Westman Plett saved 62 of 66 shots she faced.  Game 4 on Wednesday saw the Selects needing the win to continue and Plett was a hage factor in the win. Game 5 was another intense battle with all players doing what they could to win including Plett in turning away 32 of 35 shot. Plett is a grade 12 student from Grunthal who has committed to attend school at and play hockey with Morrisville State College.

 

Week 20

Player of the Week:  Martina Barclay (Winnipeg Ice)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Winnipeg Ice forward Martina Barclay has been selected as Player of the Week. Barclay was instrumental in the Winnipeg Ice win in game 2 with two assists in the 2-0 win and followed that up with a goal and two assists in the 4-3 win in game three of the series vs Yellowhead.  The Ice currently lead the series 2 games to 1. Barclay is a Grade 11 student at Kelvin High School and is in her second year with the Ice.  

 

Goalie of the Week:  Morgan Baker (Winnipeg Ice)

The MFHL is pleased to announce that Morgan Baker of the Winnipeg Ice has been selected as Goalie of the Week. Baker earned a 28-save shutout in game 2, and earned another win in game 3 of the series.  Morgan has allowed 4 goals while facing 83 shots during the three games of the series. Baker is a grade 11 student at Selkirk High School.
